Another legend is gone / Jim Miller (admirer) In the years when skating was REALLY skating, there was Ron Jellse. Always willing to help and to encourage others, Ron never looked to serve himself but instead was there for others. An outstanding pro (coach, in today's language), Ron turned out skater after skater and was highly regarded by all. He was his own man who never used others. As those of us who were active in that era of skating die off, the opportunity exists for today's skaters to pass on his character and style to others. Skating needs that help!
GOD'S GOOD GIFT / CAROLINE MIRELLI (FRIEND) RON WAS A REAL GIFT FROM GOD AND HE TRULY WAS A GOOD GIFT. HIS LOVE FOR OUR SPORT, CHILDREN, PARENTS, JUDGES AND COACHES ALIKE. HE HAD THE ANSWERS AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO SHARE THEM. IF HE DIDN'T HAVE THE ANSWER HE WOULD SEARCH UNTIL HE FOUND IT. OUR GIFT FROM GOD REACHED OUT INTO OUR OWN UNITED STATES AND WORLD SKATING RINKS AND ARENAS. BUT THEN NOT ONLY THERE HE REACHED INTO HEARTS AND HOMES OF HIS SUDENTS. IT FLOWED OVER TO THEIR SCHOOL HE WANTED THEM TO BE AT THE TOP IN THEIR SCHOOLING ALSO. WE WOULD TALK NOT ONLY ABOUT SKATING WHEN WE GOT TOGETHER AT REGIONALS OR NATIONALS BUT ABOUT OUR CHILDREN, HE LOVED HIS FAMILY. YES, HE WAS A GIFT FROM GOD AND HE IS STILL A GIFT THAT WILL KEEP ON GIVING THROUGH THE STUDENTS AND THE COACHES HE HAS TAUGHT. I HAVE KNOWN RON SINCE HE WAS A LTITTLE BOY WHEN HIS PARENTS BOUGHT HIM TO SKATE AT THE ARCADIA IN CHICAGO IN THE 40S . GOD ONLY GIVES GOOD GIFTS AND CAROLINE MIRELLI

Dear Coaches, Athletes, Parents and Friends...
Today is filled with sadness for the passing of Legendary Artistic Coach, Ron Jellse.
Truly he made a difference not only to many children but adults as well. Ron devoted his entire being to the sport of roller skating and was dedicated to those he taught. His knowledge of artistic roller skating was not only shared with his students but has been passed on to others through numerous seminars.
Ron was not only a teacher but he was also a student as he was always seeking new and exciting methods and knowledge of our sport. He was relentless in his pursuit to perfection.
Yes, the world is different because he was important to so many. Although he has completed his journey through life he will long be remembered through his students as they continue performing in his memory and may pass it on for many years to come.
As years pass we will not be able to mention roller skating without the inclusion of the name Ron Jellse. As long as there is roller skating, Ron will live on. As his email address stated...Ron has "Rolled-on". I believe if there is skating in heaven he is already hard at work.
My prayers go out to his wife, Nancy and to his family.
Prayers also for his students who will also be suffering his loss. As much as he was important to you, you have to know that "you" were important to him. You gave him a reason to live and breath each and every day. Let his spirit live in you and continue skating in his name. Keep him forever in your heart and pursue your dreams as he would have had you do.
